Chrysler’s Grand Cherokee To Improve Japan Market
In the United States, the Jeep Grand Cherokee was sold pretty well like a hotcakes with the sales of this new crossover has increased 130 percent in January. Chrysler is hoping that their well selling Grand Cherokee will find similar success in another ocean. The Automotive News said that Chrysler is hoping that this Jeep will also do well in Asia, especially their next market, Japan, Fro 21 percent improvement.
Number wise, it means that Chrysler wants this Grand Cherokee to bump their sales from the previously 2,350 units in 2010 to 3,000 units in 2011, with the Jeeps is on around 500 to 1,000 of that figure. For comparison, those numbers can be reached in onlly a few days in the United States. Unfortunately the Jeeps was only sold for 88 units in 2009 at Japan, A move to 1,000 units is surely a giant leap.
We can see how the Japanese auto customers will be pretty interested on the Grand Cherokee, but this attractive car is not actually the most popular car in Japan. The honor for the most popular vehicle goes to the Jeep Patriot, which is managed to reach 760 units sold in 2010.

De Tomaso SLS Come Ahead Of Geneva
The 2011 Geneva Motor Show will come in only days count. De Tomaso has released some clear images with a few salient details on their new SLC concept car. However actually, De Tomaso is offering the vehicle as the SLS (doesn’t mean anything to Mercedes-Benz with the same name), which means a Sport Luxury Sedan, instead of SLC for Sport Luxury Crossover. To respect Mercedes-Benz, De Tomaso will give the car a new name in Geneva.
Let’s leave the naming problem and see what is existing under its hood. It is a high riding humpback machine and not like the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. The company said that two engines were ready to be launched with 300 horsepower for the V6 and 550 horsepower for the V8. The power will be sent to all the four wheels. The company also said that they will provide the diesel engine in a later time.
De Tomaso plans to create two more vehicles with the same architecture and are aiming for a total of 8,000 units per year. I am hoping that we will hear more about theirfuture plans after the car hit the ground in Geneva.

Mazda Release Their MX5 On Ice
You might have read my previous post on Bentley’s record breaker car which is going to be brought to Geneva. However, they are not the only automaker who love to play on ice. Lately, Mazda also wrapped up their four hour race in Are, Sweden, with 20 units of MX5 roadster on the open ice for some ice show off.
These 20 units of vehicle were fighting in the low Sweden temperature of -24 degrees Fahrenheit and stiff competition from racers that come from the whole world. All vehicles were equipped with a standard spiked tires though the man behind the steering wheels wasn’t professional by any scretch of the imagination. Mazda was inviting some of their fans and auto journalists from 26 countries in the world to participate in this event.
The race is pretty interesting to watch, as on early time, the team from Australia seems would take home the checkered flag. Unfortunately, a late race spin caused the Russian team to take the lead and complete the most laps around the circuits of three mile in four hour time limit. You can see the short video here.

Bentley’s ‘Ice Record Breaker’ Coming to Geneva
Bentley don’t want to waste their time in capitalizing their latest speedy unit. Cars UK reported that Bentley is planning to release 100 units of special edition models to commemorate Juha Kankkunen’s recent record breaking on ice run. The vehicle is officially called Bentley Continental Supersports Ice-Speed Record Convertible. It will be available in three special colors: Beluga, Quartzite, and Arctic White. You will see the whole red detail accents and a special dark gray soft top caps.
For the engine section, I think the supersports car lover won’t be disappointed with its 6.0 liter W12 engine which is offering a 631 horsepower bump with 590 pound feet of torque. Those figures were the same as the standard edition. It is because Kankkunen himself breaking the ice record with a vehicle which was powered by the same engine, so it is not Bentley’s fault to not improve it.
Unfortunately, Bentley is still hasn’t revealing on how much will this special edition car costs. All we know is that the record holder car is supposed to be brought on this year’s Geneva Motor Show on March. Let’s just wait until then.
